There is a proud and distinguished history of swimming at Willow.

Swimming is part of the weekly school time-table and all pupils are competent swimmers.

The Campus provides two swimming pools and competitive swimming groups have on-going, early morning training throughout the school year, allowing them to participate at  Leinster and All-Ireland championships. In recent years, Willow swimmers have represented Ireland at national level  and are continually improving under the inspired coaching of  Mr. James Lawless.

Weekly Lane Swimming  in the Willow Pool

‘Lane Swimming’ was introduced to provide a facility for pupils who just enjoy the exercise – or who want or incrementally improve their fitness and skills.

Some ‘Lane Swimmers’ graduate to competitive swimming with the Willow Sharks; however, the purpose of the sessions is the joy of being in ‘one’s element’!

Every Tuesday morning @ 7am, lane Swimming is provided in the Willow pool for 3rd Formers to 6th Formers. Numbers vary throughout the season but such is the tradition of swimming in Willow - a cohort of boys are always keen and present.

Coached by Max Gueret, the boys really improve over the season. We ask Parents of Lane Swimmers to join our ‘Parental Rota’ so that there is always a second adult in attendance on those dark and cold winter mornings.

Those interested in attending should contact Timi in Reception in the first instance.

Minimum standards to join:

  1. An ability to swim at least one full length of the pool with relative ease.
  2. A genuine interest in swimming
  3. Being punctual and responsible.

Pupils should have an ‘extra’ breakfast box for sustenance after the session - which can be enjoyed at the ‘Swimming Corner’ near the 5th Form Corridor!

Leinster and All Ireland Swimming Champions

U10 Relay Team (L-R):  Jed O'Malley, Ronan Fahey, Harry Whelan, Matthew Buckley

On Saturday 10/01/15 34 Willow boys competed at the Leinster Swimming Championship. We witnessed some superb performances with numerous individual medals and personal best times achieved. Our relay teams were amazing with the under 10s taking gold and bronze medals in both medley and freestyle relays and U12s again taking gold and bronze medals. One of our U10 relay teams(above) broke the Leinster record in the medley relay which is an outstanding achievement. These boys went on to represent the school at the Irish Schools Swimming Championship and again took gold in both under 10 relays. Congratulations to all involved.
