Second Form marks the formal beginning of rugby in Willow Park, with many boys playing rugby for the first time.
The coaches use the boys' enthusiasm to teach them the basic skills, while there is an enormous emphasis on fun, respect and full participation. The boys play tip rugby at first and progress to contact rugby, with tackling before the end of the season.
The highlight of the year is the annual Second Form Rugby Blitz hosted in Kenilworth Square in March, where the boys take pride in donning the Willow jersey for the first time against other schools and clubs. Willow boys always behave in an exemplary manner and are a credit to their parents and to their school.
The boys play with their own classes on mixed ability teams in Second Form. They may be put into mixed ability teams with boys from other classes before the end of the Rugby season. Team details will be posted below if applicable.
Co-ordinators are Mr Paul Byrne, Mr Oisín Dunne and Ms Ciara Bonner. Head coaches are Mick McNabb, Gavin Greene and Carl Marren.
Training takes place every Wednesday 12-1pm and every Friday 2-3pm weather permitting. The boys are supervised in their classes in the case of inclement weather and no texts are sent out.
I hope all the boys in Second Form enjoy their rugby training and I look forward to seeing their skills as the year progresses.
