Weekly message from the Principal

To me the sole hope of human salvation lies in teaching - George Bernard Shaw
In the second edition of the Willow Weekly I wrote about how important good teachers are to the national prosperity of every country in the world, I mentioned that they celebrate this fact on September the 5th in every school in India. However, I am going to extend this point in stating that great teaching matters and I agree with the quotation above from George Bernard Shaw that it is so crucial for the future success of every country in the world.
Therefore I welcome two inspectors - Ms. Anne O’Sullivan and Ms. Anne Feerick - into the Junior School over the next six days who will review the teaching and learning inside and outside each classroom within the school. They will review our policies, methodologies and practices with regards the holistic educational experience on offer within the Junior School and I am sure that every parent, teacher and boy will make these ladies feel very welcome.
Over the coming week they will affirm good practice and will offer recommendations that will enhance and benefit the teaching and learning of all within Willow Park Junior School.
Firstly, I would like to thank Ms. Caroline Lynch for putting us in contact with Dr. Pauline Cogan who offered the Junior School staff an in-service on assisting boys with Dyslexia in mainstream classrooms. It was a very worthwhile and informative session and I will take away the slide on general principles for differentiation especially when it stated that we teach every subject with love.
Secondly, I would like to thank Mr. Paul Byrne for organising all of the walks this week for Third and Fourth Form boys in Bray to Greystones and in Glendalough. The boys and teachers really enjoyed the day walking and learned about the History of Lord Meath in Bray and the early Christian settlements in Glendalough. However I feel the most important lesson learned by the boys and teachers is that there is no such thing as bad weather only inappropriate clothing….
