As part of the collaboration between library and classroom, all the new books we have ordered from the Book Fair commission have finally arrived, been catalogued and labelled and are now on display and available to borrow from the library. We have a great choice of titles from picture books for the little ones, non-fiction books for 3rd – 6th Forms, novels for 1st – 6th Forms and annuals for all. Hopefully, this will encourage even the reluctant reader to pick up a book and enjoy reading!
Arising from a suggestion from the Willow Weekly team, we have asked the 3rd /4th Form and 6th Form Deans, Mr Garvin and Mr Macken, to invite their boys to read a book of their own choosing and write up a book report on it. These will then be displayed in the library and some will be chosen for publication in the Willow Weekly newsletter every fortnight as an ongoing item. Again, it is hoped that this will encourage their peers to branch out into genres they may not have chosen before.
As part of the collaboration between Willow Junior, Willow First and Blackrock College, the librarians from each school will be meeting up on a regular basis in order to discuss library news, share ideas to improve each library and of course chat! We have already visited the beautiful First Year library in the recently-opened extension and wish the very best of luck to Ms. Barbara Kennedy in her new surroundings.
After the Willow Choir’s performance in the RDS at the Science Conference, Mr Halion was delighted to be presented with a beautiful signed copy of the recently published book The Planets by Professor Brian Cox and Andrew Cohen. This book is an accompaniment to the TV series The Planets which was broadcast on BBC last year.
